„Vor einem Jahrzehnt habe ich so hart wie möglich daran gearbeitet, herauszufinden, wie ich schreiben, singen und aufnehmen kann. Wie ich langfristig touren kann, wo ich die richtigen Freunde finde, wie ich mein Leben als Musiker gestalten kann, was der Sinn von all dem ist und wo mich diese Reise in der Zukunft führen wird. Zehn Jahre sind wie im Flug vergangen, und es tröstet mich, dass ich immer noch keine einzige dieser Fragen beantworten kann.

„Past Lives...“ begann in gewisser Weise als eine selbstsüchtige Platte. Die Songs entstanden, weil ich nirgendwo anders meine Gedanken und Gefühle unterbringen konnte. Die üblichen Langzeitschließfächer waren entweder verloren oder überfüllt, also beschloss ich, etwas von dem Gewicht im „musikalischen Hier“ zu lassen. Eine Weile später bemerkte ich, dass sich die Kiste gefüllt hatte und ihr Inhalt zusammenhängend war. Eine Sammlung von Ereignissen und Momenten, die sich um ein zentrales Thema drehten: Verlust und die Frage, wie man damit umgehen sollte. Man bot mir an, einen Monat lang nur mit meiner Akustikgitarre auf Tour zu gehen, und schlug vor, ich solle ein paar Lieder dazu schreiben. Ich hätte mir damals niemals vorstellen können, wohin diese Gedanken, Texte und musikalische Fragmente führen würden. Ich kann nicht in Worte fassen, wie sehr ich die Verbindungen schätze, die ich dadurch knüpfen durfte. Past Lives...' begann als etwas, das mir gehörte, aber es wurde sehr schnell zu Etwas, das für alle da war. Die Songs waren der Auslöser über schwierige Themen und Momente zu sprechen, während wir uns über unsere gemeinsamen Erfahrungen verbinden konnten.

Um all diese Songs zu feiern, werde ich diesen November eine Handvoll Konzerte in New Jersey, England und Deutschland spielen. Bei jedem Termin werden sich Freunde zu mir gesellen, wenn wir auf 'Past Lives...' in seiner Gesamtheit zurückblicken. Vielen Dank für die jahrelange Freundschaft und Unterstützung. Ich kann es kaum erwarten, euch dort zu sehen.“

„A decade ago I was working as hard as I could to figure it out; how to write, how to sing, how to record, how to stay on the road, how to make friends, how to make this a life, what the point of it all was, and where I was going both now and later. Ten years have flown and I'm comforted by the fact that I still can't answer a single one of those questions.

"Past Lives..." began as a selfish record. The songs came to be because I had nowhere else to store those thoughts and feelings. The usual long-term compartments were either lost or over capacity, so I decided to leave some of the weight over here. After a while I looked over and noticed that the box had filled and its contents were cohesive. A collection of events and moments that reflected on a central theme: loss and what the hell to do with it. I was offered a chance to go on the road for a month with just an acoustic guitar and the suggestion was made that I should have some songs out to accompany it. I couldn't have imagined where these thoughts would travel to and I can't put into words how much I appreciate the connections I've forged because of them. 'Past Lives...' started as something that was mine but it almost immediately became the opposite. It gave us a reason to talk about difficult subjects and moments, while allowing strangers to connect over our shared experience. To celebrate all of these songs I'm going to be playing a handful of shows this November in New Jersey, England, and Germany. I'll be joined by friends on each date as we look back at 'Past Lives...' in its entirety. Thank you for the years of comradery and support, I can't wait to see you there.“
